KNITTING BENEFITS......FAVORITE DESIGNER

As I continue my knitting journey, I have to stop and go back to where it all started. I have met some awesome ladies who have taken my classes and they reminded me of how and why I started down this fiber road. Four years ago, Candi Young @Iamcoachcandi invited me to speak at a local library about the therapeutic benefits of knitting. I gave my presentation and taught some of the participants the basics of knitting. Covid hit and everything came to a stand still. I was asked by the librarian if I would lead a Zoom knitting/crochet group once a week. Almost four years later, we are still going strong. We meet in person, have so much fun, teach new comers and do awesome charity knitting for a great organization called Soap Sacks. You can go to soapsacks.com to get information about the work Stacy Wiener does. I had never heard of Zoom but this opened doors to meet people from around the world.

I met new people through the magic of Zoom and discovered new designers. If you know me you know that Casapinka, Bronwyn, is my favorite designer casapinka.com. As I faced lockdown, and the loneliness it brought with it I found my first Casapinka pattern Breathe and Hope. The stitches were rhythmic and brought great peace. I began my Casapinka journey. Again through the magic of Zoom, I met Erin Von Holdt of themoderndream.com and she steered me to the only Black owned yarn shop in my state Beyond Yarn beyondyarnunion.com I met Theresa the owner and after a few months I began teaching classes there.

Of course, I wanted to accomplish a few things when teaching classes. I tell my students that the right pattern with rhythmic stitches, yarn that is awesome to work with and the right needles add up to a relaxing and enjoyable experience. I also insist on lots of laughs! I teach patterns by Casapinka because they are well written and easy to follow. You always learn new stitches and there is a rhythm to the stitches. I have taught The Scotlander Cardigan and No Need To Panic several times. For newbies to knitting sweaters No Need To Panic is the perfect choice. A student said it's 13 pages. Yes because it is written with a lot of explanation and tutorials to help first time sweater knitters. I'm currently teaching Caroline and Neesee No Need To Panic and they are enjoying it. They really like the new stitches they're learning. A good yarn to use is Samay by Amanoyarns.com it has a beautiful drapes. Another pattern I love to teach is Casapinka's Scotlander Cardigan I just finished teaching this pattern for the third time. One student really was not an experienced knitter and did a beautiful job. Students commented on how relaxing it was to knit this sweater. I think that is the therapeutic value of knitting, It's relaxing! It takes you away from the craziness of the world and gives you that time of peace. the bonus is you end up with a beautiful garment. I've posted with permission Caroline and NeeSee two of my students rocking their Scotlander made with one of my favorite yarns Wonderlands Alice DK frabjousfibers.com

So, I've taken a little trip down memory lane. Shared my favorite designer and patterns. I hope you also know why I love knitting and sharing it with others. It brings me so much joy to see people find peace, relaxation and feelings of accomplishment as they progress in their knitting journey.

What's next for me? Well I've started learning a new skill but you have to wait for my next post to find out what it is. Yes, it's fiber related. A hint.....it has me going around in circles.

Also, a long time dream of mine is finally going to be accomplished? Never stop dreaming. Photographers will be involved.

I'm also going to be doing some page turning. That's mysterious. Wow, that's a lot but not everything. In the comments post your guesses, your favorite designer and why you like to knit. How has it benefitted you? Until next time happy knitting. Welcome to all the new subscribers.
